Description
Presented here for consideration is a striking EARLY Remued Vase decorated with applied Gum Nuts and Leaves; AWESOME! As if the Gumnut and leaf decoration is not enough it is further decorated with 4 sets of 3 vertically scored lines; in the past I have seen these referred to as Koala scratches. This large bulbus base has a small flared lip and an indented equatorial line. It is drip glazed in at least 3 colours. Sadly my photos just do not catch the rich colour on this baby. The base glaze is a vibrant cobalt with a sage green over the top enhanced by nuances of brown which have trickled down from the rim, with hints of a silver grey and strawberry dribbled over the top. The inside is glazed in a deep brown. It is not marked, but there can be no doubt who made this impressive vase. The vertically scored are a very early form of decoration that dates to the period of Pamula and just after. If you check out Peter Watson’s www.remued.com website you will find that he has this catalogued as Pamula shape 19; see this web page for another example of this shape http://www.remued.com/pam19.html. I believe this large and prestigious pot would have been manufactured in 1934. Dimensions This proud Aussie has a diameter at its broadest of 17.5 cm (7”) and it strides in at 13.5 cm (5.25”) tall. Condition It is in AS NEW condition; with NO chips, cracks, stains or repairs and NO crazing. Pieces of Remued with applied gum leaves are very hot on the collectables market. This is early Remued at its most magnificent, they just don’t come any more collectable than this corker.
