Description
Afro CelottoModern Murano Glass MasterAugust 23, 1963 - presentAfro Celotto began his career of working in glass under the tutelage of the ledgendary Lino Tagliapietra. During his 12 years as Lino's assistant, Afro had the priviledge to learn from one of the finest living glass masters. Although, today, Afro is considered a "youngster" in the world of glass blowing, he has quickly become recognized by his technical ability and artistic expression. Most recently, Afro Celotto had opened his own studio on Murano. In previous years, Afro worked within the old tradtion where glass masters executed the designs of others. In this century, masters like Afro Celotto have moved beyond excellence in execution and now finally feel free to devote their attention and focus to their own artistic expression and unique works. These past few years have been an immensely creative period for Afro! The graphic sign that you see under each piece is the actual signature of the artist, Maestro Afro Celotto. He uses a special diamond point tool to handwrite it under each piece that is made by him. This is your guarantee of the authencity and the uniqueness of each art piece glass. What you're buying! One - Bechi Shaped Glass Sculpturewith processes of hot and cold workBeautiful shades of blue, green, orange, violet, pink, black opaque, yet fully captures the lightStyle:Bechi - with a large opening and a long tip, or beak, pulled up from one sideHot work Processes:A canne - rods of glass are forned into patterns, melted, then blownMena - twisted to make a spiral or swirl patternTrasparente - transparent glassCold Work Processes:Battuto - grinding the leaves a large "scoop" surface that looks as though it's been beaten or hammeredInciso - insicisions cut in varying depth with a grinding wheel consisting of a straight line or linesDiamond point engraving was first introduced to Murano in 1534 by Vincenzo d'AngleoSema - a small, narrow football-like indention the looks like a "seed"Serveo - like grinding done with a whell with diamond powder It gives a matte and texturized effect to the surfaceDimensions:24.5" Overall Height7.5" Width (widest point)4.75" Depth (widest point)22.0" Circumfrence (widest point)2.5" BaseI am a private collector of the modern Murano glass masters works.
