I am offering this beautiful AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE STAFFORDSHIRE BATTERSEA ENAMEL snuff or pill box for a client. It was authenticated and offered at Christie's auction in May of this year but the auction was not well attended and the owner's reserve was not met. It measures about 3" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" and the Christie's tags are still on it. Provenance: D.M. & P. Manheim, New York. The description fromt the auction catalogue reads as follows:"A GILT COPPER-MOUNTED STAFFORDSHIRE ENAMEL POWDERED-PINK GROUND SNUFF-BOX AND COVER, SECOND HALF OF THE 18TH CENTURY. Rectangular, the cover painted in purple with a rural landscape of a church by a bridge, another village in the background, within a white enamel surround of fruiting vine, the interior of the cover similarly painted with an Italianate farmhouse on a hill, the front and back with similar panels, the short sides with shrubbery, each similarly reserved, the bottom with ground color only. $2,000 - $3,000.
