Antique 1750's MARSEILLE Faience Inkwell Letter Holder Signed Look at this ! Don't miss it! Look at this exceptional novelty. It is made of faience, with incredible hand painted designs and floral motifs - forget-me-nots, tulips, and other flowersIt is a desktop inkwell and letter holder. There is also a small drawer made to hold small desktop accessories, probably fountain pen tips. The other drawer is fauxIt is made to look a little like a home kitchen oven. This type of shaped ovens were popular in France during the 18th centuryWonderful design, a truly one-of-a-kind antique novelty. It dates back to the mid 1700'sIt is signed on the underside of the drawer and on the bottom in underglaze maroon - see photosSuch pieces were made by Marseille Faienceries, of the city of Marseille, on the French southeast coast of the Mediterranean SeaIncredible piece of antique French art potteryThe flower-bloom shaped inkwell can be removed for cleaning, as can the drawerMeasurements: Approx. 4.5" high x 4" x 4.5" wideCondition: Very Good overall, considering its age and purpose. The only defect really worthy of mention is the chip in the top of the back side as pictured, and the two little flakes on the inner side of the drawer, unseen from the outside.
