It is a large majolica planter which sits on its original majolica pedestal columnIt is an early piece of English Majolica, dating back to the ea./mid. 1700sImitates Oriental patterns, especially seen in the depicted cranes and storks, and in the style of the treesThe other interesting thing is that on the bottom front of the pedestal there is a niche, which is directly influenced by eastern patterns, and could be regarded as an AltarThe main color is dark blueA polychrome glaze over an earthenware body was usedThe planter and stand are original to each otherThis is an original period item, NOT a later reproduction of any kind!!!Measurements: Approx. 41.5" high on the pedestal, the planter itself is 14" high x 13.25" top diameterCondition: VG+ overall, no major issues, fine crackelure developed over centuries.
